About Saksham SERI

Transforming Rural Madhya Pradesh Through Empowerment

Saksham SERI (Society for Empowering Rural India) is a grassroots NGO founded by Seema Verma, an aviation engineer and Navy wife, driven by a passion for empowering rural communities. Seema's mission is to create a safe space and opportunities for rural citizens, particularly women and youth, to achieve sustainable livelihoods.

Seema moved to a small village, Imaliya Singpur, Raisen District in Madhya Pradesh after retirement. She founded Saksham-SERI to work closely with the rural community. So far her personal network supported her to initiate small projects in the area. She has now set-up up a "Saksham Center for Empowering Rural Areas " in Bhojpur, Raisen.

About Our Founder

Mrs. Seema Verma

Seema Verma, Alumni of MITS, Gwalior & MANIT, worked as an aviation engineer and as Navy wife was also President/Office Bearer of Defence Wives Welfare association for 11 years when her husband Vice Admiral Bimal Verma , AVSM was Commander-in- Chief.

Witnessing a young girl's suicide due to lack of support, Seema's mission is to create a safe space and opportunities for rural citizens, particularly women and youth, to achieve sustainable livelihoods. She worked relentlessly towards widow rehabilitation, women empowerment, waste management and many more such projects and touched many lives as part of the welfare organisation in the Navy. She also has to her credit as the only womens organisation to win a national swachchta award at Vigyan Bhawan Delhi at a function chaired by Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji.

Post retirement, Seema Verma moved to a small village, Imaliya Singpur, Raisen District after retirement. She founded Saksham-SERI as a small, grassroots level NGO to work closely with the rural community as she believes that Strong Nation can only be built with strong villages where 80% of the population lives. Her personal network supported her to initiate small projects in the area. 2. She is now setting up a Saksham Center for Empowering Rural Areas (SCERA).

80% of India's population resides in rural areas, offering a vibrant cultural landscape and a strong foundation for the nation's growth. It's a well known fact that they are the most backward and poor, leading to migration to cities This, in turn, strains already stretched urban resources. Central India, in particular, faces steeper hurdles on development indexes. Empowering women to participate more actively in the workforce is crucial for overall development.

Vice Admiral Bimal Verma

Advisor

Senior retired Naval Officer. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) and National Defence Academy, where he was adjudged Best Naval Cadet. He was commissioned in the Indian Navy in January 1, 1980.
